We’re excited to welcome to NYC for a rare Manhatty gig, the creme de la creme New World Scottish fiddle duo, Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas. Alasdair’s fiddle playing is legendary, and his education efforts at music camps around the world have created a new generation of musically present fiddlers – encouraging them not just to learn tunes and play them in the tradition, but to push ‘in the moment’ musicality , rhythmic sensitivity, improvisation and drive. Natalie’s musicality emerged in this context, with a stop off at Juilliard. Her astonishing virtuosity and joyful spirit shine out in her playing and illuminate the thresholds of what the trad idiom can contain. Rhythmically you could build skyscrapers on her playing. Both of them have incredible charisma and chops to spare as performers. Do yourselves a favor and get down to see them. They’re playing at Subculture – a new venue on Bleecker St. Tickets are $25 before the night, $30 day of show, almost sold out, get yours now. Tickets here
Then treat of treats, after the show on Weds night (30th) we’re having tunes in Manhattan from 10pm at The Scratcher with Alasdair and Natalie – a one night only pop-up Iona session in Manhat… with the best!
