Winter Season at Iona! Monday nights at 9.

Here’s the lineup for the winter season at Iona. Last month we had a great night with the BBC filming the session for ‘Burns in America’. In December we’re delighted to have the acclaimed Gaelic singer, Christine Primrose with us on Monday Dec 12 for ‘Song Night’ also featuring our own Pamela Jean Agaloos,and then again on Sunday Dec 18th when the BBC will be in once again to record Christine and the session for a documentary about her life and work.
Amy Beshara leads tonight Nov 14, fresh from her travels with Burning Bridget Cleary.  Fiddler Liz Hanley leads Nov 21, if you haven’t seen her band Frogbelly and Symphony check them out live this week at the 11th St Bar on November 16th. Accordionist John Redmond will celebrate the release of his new CD, ‘Box Sets’ on Nov 28. Dec 5th it’s Kevin Crawford, flute man with Lunasa in to blow the lids off any remaining smokestacks.

Liz Hanley back at Iona May 23rd


So good we asked her back immediately!  Come hear Liz sing and play some tunes with us this coming Monday May 23rd.  Iona is at Grand and Bedford in Williamsburg and we get going around 9pm.

After last week’s fantastic night , this week we’ve got another pair of leaders – Elias Alexander on pipes, fiddles, song and Andrew Forbes the Jimi Hendrix of the pipes at Iona. Come join us for tunes from 9pm at Iona, 180 Grand Street, Brooklyn  – Monday May 16th.

Jalopy audienceJalopyIonaCome join us to celebrate the release of ‘Island Wild’ the Iona Scottish Session CD at Jalopy Theatre and School of Music. We’ve invited our friends from some of the great traditional music sessions of New York to perform and then play for called Contra, Scottish and Irish dancing and invite YOU to come down for top night of performance and dancing to live music. No experience required – all the dances will be demonstrated.

A ceilidh is a grow-your-own night of music, singing, dancing and general merriment with fun intensified by liberal gargles of warming libations. Ours will have performance sets from representatives of some of the great NY sessions, and then dancing, with the performers forming the dance band. Mary Abdill is dance instructor and caller, and Glenfiddich champion fiddler,  Calum Pasqua will lead the band.
