Come join us to celebrate the release of ‘Island Wild’ the Iona Scottish Session CD at Jalopy Theatre and School of Music. We’ve invited our friends from some of the great traditional music sessions of New York to perform and then play for called Contra, Scottish and Irish dancing and invite YOU to come down for top night of performance and dancing to live music. No experience required – all the dances will be demonstrated.
A ceilidh is a grow-your-own night of music, singing, dancing and general merriment with fun intensified by liberal gargles of warming libations. Ours will have performance sets from representatives of some of the great NY sessions, and then dancing, with the performers forming the dance band. Mary Abdill is dance instructor and caller, and Glenfiddich champion fiddler, Calum Pasqua will lead the band.

Join us next Monday June 22nd for the inaugural MIDSUMMER BURNS NIGHT at Iona. It’s all about the thrumming, free wheelin’, summer-lovin’ poetry and songs of the Bard, so we’ll be singing, declaiming, bagpiping, and raging around in our cutty sarks, dressing droddums and kissing barefit carlins. From 8pm at Iona, 180 Grand St, Brooklyn 11211.
A great cast of characters will be in attendance – Glenfiddich Champion fiddler, Calum Pasqua, Young Wolfetone Andrew Sharp, piper JR Strauss, Burns Scholar, Professor Thomas Keith and the Iona session band. Our Friends at Laphroaig will be offering tastes of their fine whiskies and there will be specials on Belhaven Ale and Crabbies Alcoholic Ginger Beer!
